GitHub adds organization-level model rules for Copilot

GitHub has added targeted model rules for Copilot, letting enterprise owners control which models are available to specific organizations.

Instead of relying only on a single enterprise-wide setting, admins can now allow specific Copilot models for selected orgs. GitHub says the feature is in public preview.

GitHub also refreshed the default model availability experience. From one page, admins can set models to **Enabled** for all organizations or **Optional** so each organization can decide whether to turn them on.

**Why builders should care:** if you manage multi-org Copilot deployments, this is a practical governance control. It can help you standardize approved models, support phased rollouts, and keep model availability aligned with compliance or cost policies.

**Who can use it:** customers on Copilot Business and Copilot Enterprise plans.

**Builder takeaway:** review your model allowlist strategy and map it to org-level needs before broad rollout.
